Utopia
The eighth grade students were asked to write about their utopia. Below are some excerpts from selected students’ essays.
Dane Riedford’s Utopia
My utopia is really simple. The world is good enough on its own, so don’t fix what is already good. Everyone has a specific purpose in life. Also, only you can change your life – not other people. A boy cannot become a man if he doesn’t want to, so a utopia cannot change who people are. Only one’s self can change his/her life.
If you really think about it, the world we are in is as perfect as it’s going to get. There are always consequences to changing what shouldn’t be changed.
Annie McCool’s Utopia
My utopia would be a happy, peaceful place with no war. Everyone would walk around with a loving smile and greet people as they go. Everyone would find their perfect match and fall in love. The love would be perfect and very cute.
The town would be very colorful and happy. There would be nothing in the town that could stop you. There would be no one who could hurt you and no illnesses or diseases that could get you sick.
Isabella’s Weyer’s Utopia
My idea of a perfect utopia would be wonderful. In my utopia nobody would have to go to school because everyone knows everything. In my perfect world, vegetables and fruits would be bad for you, and candy and unhealthy stuff would be good for you!
Jack Vieth’s Utopia
My perfect utopia would be the best thing in the entire world. I would have all the money in the world. I wouldn’t have any poor people in the entire utopia. Every single person in the worlds would get a free house and car from me if they didn’t have enough money. I would be a nice, great, kind loving man and that’s what my utopia would be like.
Katherine Cleaver’s Utopia
My utopia would have a big house that would have all modern furniture and be filled with flat screen televisions. My giant house would be built on a hillside where there is nothing but mountains of grass and a sunset to watch every night. To get up to the giant house you will have to take gondola all the way up to the door. I hope my utopia comes true!
